Stace on… the Telly

Well not actually me on the telly but me on the telly as in talking about it. One day I WILL be on the telly. I’m hoping for Top Gear presenter, replacing Louise on Something for the Weekend, or maybe the new Jeremy Kyle only less exploitative of poor thick people and not a tw*t.

Anywho,  I nicked this from http://deannap.tumblr.com/ Thanks!

Pick your five favourite TV shows (in no particular order) and answer the following questions. Don’t cheat!
  1. Torchwood
  2. The Mighty Boosh
  3. Miranda
  4. The IT Crowd
  5. True Blood

Who’s your favourite character in 2?

Vince Noir. Played by Noel Fielding,  my future sailor husband.

What’s your favourite episode of 4?

Well it’s got to be the more recent Street Countdown.

What’s your favourite season of 5?

I’ve read the books but I’m only on Season Two of the show at the moment. However, I predict Season Three will be my favourite beacuse Alcide comes into it.  How shallow of me *sniggers and rubs thighs a la Vic Reeves*

How long have you watched 1?

When did it start? *Consults Wikipedia*…. 2006

How did you become interested in 3?

I liked her in other comedies and something about her manner makes me laugh very hard. You can  follow her on Twitter too @mermhart.  She’s currently writing the second series. Best scene was when she can’t cancel her gym membership and threatens to wee in the ball pool. I failed to find the clip. Brownie point  for whoever can.

Who’s your favourite actor in 4?

Richard Ayoade who plays Moss.  His facial expressions crack me up. He’s also Saboo in The Mighty Boosh, or for the purposes of this blogging malarkey, number 2.

Which show do you prefer? 1, 2, or 5?

Far too tough to call. I love them all in their own special way.

Which show have you seen more episodes of; 1 or 3

1 because there have been more episodes.

If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

I’d be Jen so I could work with Moss and Roy.

How would you kill off your favourite character in 1?

Owen was my favourite and he’s already been killed off :(

Would a 3/4 crossover work?

Oh yes, I’m sure it would.

Pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely, but strangely okay couple.

It’s pretty much anything goes at Torchwood anyway so any combo would work.

Has 5 inspired you in any way?

Yes. When I grow up I want to be a vampire and bite people.

Overall, which show has a better cast? 3 or 5?

5. True Blood, lots of  fit people.

Which has better theme music, 2 or 4?

True Blood- I wanna do bad things with you!

I must go now, got some telly to watch before the IT Crowd is on the telly and before I watch True Blood Season Two Episode 3 not exactly on the telly but on this here laptop. Then I’ll sleep so I can wake up and watch some telly.

The one thing that unites us is Doctor Marten’s Boots.

Doctor Marten’s Doctor Marten’s Doctor Marten’s  Boots.

Anyone remember this on the Young Ones??

My first Docs were when I was 14 and into Grunge. Tie dye skirts, big baggy Nirvana T-shirts and of course my big Docs. Unfortunately for me they were like boats on my feet as I was (am) size 7, short and skinny. But I loved them. I even loved them despite the fact that initially I had to rub leather softener into them so they didn’t rub too much. Me and my friends all had Docs, some black, some colourful, some with funky laces. Nothing is like the ones you can get today though. I still look at them and get excited. The funky ones I would love but I use age as an excuse not to. Check these out!

About three years ago I bought some Doc Marten’s sandal/flip flops, not quite as cool as the boots.  I ordered them and they didn’t arrive. A few months later my Stepdad found them behind the fence! They had delivered to my old address. Luckily they were well wrapped and they served me well. However they have been recently made redundant (‘current climate and all that!). My FitFlops have taken their place. Sorry Mr Marten but they are much more comfortable.

So maybe in the winter I will treat myself to some Docs again. Maybe these. Not until FitFlop season is over though :)

The Secret and my Secret Shifters

So after a shocking couple of  weeks mainly due to the stress of work and related crapola I have had to take desperate measures to pick myself back up.

I downloaded ‘The Secret‘ by Rhonda Byrne for my Kindle. Up until now I thought it was going to be another load of Americanised culty therapy crap (which it may border on). BUT it is making me think. I’ve always been an advocate of the power of positive thinking (as many of my close friends and family will know) but The Secret takes it to a different level. It also helps you to think about all the things you want in life and getting them too.

The idea of it is based on the laws of attraction. Like attracts like therefore if you have negative thoughts you will attract more negative thoughts and experiences. Makes sense if you think about it. You know when something starts your day off badly so all your thoughts are negative from that point on and the rest of the day continues to be even more crapola? Well if you can change your thoughts to be more positive then you are more likely to attract more positivity. Quite simple really but I would advise you to read it too and see how it’s explained in a much more comprehensive way than I can. This is just my simplified take on it so far.

In the book, ‘Secret Shifters’ are those things which can shift our mood when we are down or feeling negative in other ways. Whilst sitting in my sunny garden today I thought I would make a list of my ‘Secret Shifters’.

Music

Anything I can mosh to – the heavier the better

Anything I can singalong to – the cheesier and lamer the better!

Food

Discovering and making new healthy recipes

Eating out in a new place

Cooking for others ( I am a feeder!)

People

Luckily for me I have a lot of Secret Shifter people. These are people that I know will make me feel better and who I know will support me when I need it. One thing I have to learn is that I can draw on these people when I need to. I don’t have to be the one who keeps everyone happy all the time, they can make me happy too. Hoorah.

My JB, my Mom and Stepdad Tom, my brothers Ricky and Joe, my friend and business partner Lynette, my friend Ruth who I ALWAYS laugh with, similarly my cousin Charlotte, seeing my Nanny Jean, cooking din dins for my Dad and my in laws Pam and Bill who are great. There’s loads more. I am lucky to have so many brilliant people in my life. Like attracts like, love attracts love though. : ) I love a lot.

Activities

Singing

More recently walking and running

Reading in silence

Tweeting and reading people’s funny tweets makes me smile

Comedy on the TV

Funny YouTube videos

Environments

Sunny gardens, parks, the countryside, the seaside, camping and walking in the open air

Helpful

EFT, counting my blessings, asking God/the Universe

I’m only half way through the book so I’m going to keep going. If it helps then it can only be a good thing.

It may also be another thing I will bang on about so beware!

Onwards and upwards!

Seven of my fave Amiga games from back in the day

When I was young(er) we had an Amiga 500 and these are the games I’m going to reminisce about for your blogreading pleasure.

1) Menace

My whole family loved and played this game. How our joystick lasted I don’t know because for this one you really had to be speedy on that button. I would insert a joke here but it would most likely be wholly inapproriate regarding my skills with a joystick.

2) Thundercats

My Mom used to babysit for my best friend Stella and her sister and we would play this before school whilst I ate Marmite toast.

3) Lemmings

Probably the first game that I spent hours at a time on.

4) Speedball II

5) Alien Breed

My Stepdad Tom loved this one. It was very exciting!

6) Flimbo’s Quest

A bit cutesy but I loved a good platform game.

7) Ikari Warriors

Couldn’t decide between this and International Karate!

You can keep your X Boxes and Playstations, Amiga games will always be the best : )

Shoe shopping & my new FitFlops

To begin, for those of you that may not know me so well, I hate shopping, in particular, clothes shopping, and if we’re getting pedantic, shoe shopping. Despite my gender I cannot see why people would enjoy it. I like having new things like shoes but I can’t get excited about the process. Shopping in general annoys me and my gender annoys me by conforming to the idea that we should all be shopping obsessed. Don’t get me started on sales, (untidy, disordered nervous breakdown inducing horror scenes).

Anyway, after my positive experience choosing my new running shoes at the specialist running shop I was surely on a roll. Hence on Thursday I found myself toddling off to the Cloggs shop in the Bull Ring to choose some FitFlops. I’d already looked at some on their website. They promise great things and they fit well into my current ‘try and get fit and toned and eat healthy’ regime.

I had two whole staff members to help me choose. Two! Usually in shops I have to lurk around people to try to ascertain whether they actually work there or not and then embarrass myself when it turns out they are just browsing on their lunchbreak. I chose quite quickly the Rebel FitFlops. They have metal studs on them and so of course they are very me.

I was concerned that they may rub me and blister because my feet can be a bit rubbish with new shoes. However, so far so good. They are really quite comfy and yesterday my feet still did not hurt, despite giving them a pounding around Solihull and the supermarket.  Now I’m just hoping that my buttocks and thighs of steel will suddenly emerge and I’ll look like Nell McAndrew, or Cheryl Cole with bigger boobs. Or just me but toned will do.

I’ve just blogged about shoes!

Inspired to get fit and healthy – Week Four

Week Four Monday 28th June 2010

…and so week four begins.

1) Exercise more – I have run. Like Forrest Gump. I’ve ran to see Mom and Tom and my in laws and round the block. I am trying to see how far I can go without stopping to walk. On Saturday when JB got home we went to have a walk around the lake at Coton Park near Kingsbury Water Park which was really nice despite being bitten to buggery.

On Sunday JB was at work so rather that sitting in bed watching Something for the Weekend  I got up and ran to see Mom and Tom. At 9 in the morning!  On a Sunday! My brother Joe was in bed (fair enough for an 18 year old) but my brother Rick had come round too as he is cycling more and was going for a ride. Me, Mom, Tom and Rick walked to Elmdon Park and then Rick went off for a bike ride. We walked all around the top of the park and did two miles. Not bad considering it was the hottest day of the year. Unfortunately the cross on the back of my Sport’s bra gave me stupid tan lines. I’m hoping to up my running and maybe think about doing another more structured sport too when I’m fitter.

2) Eat Healthier – I’m doing well on this one. I don’t really feel like I’m depriving myself and it’s good not to feel bloated from gorging myself. If anything some days I am not eating enough points because I am eating a lot of fruit and veg. I soon remedy that with a Curly Wurly and some milk though.

3) Lose weight – I have lost another 2lbs so I have lost a total of 5lb in three weeks. Not bad. Another 1lb next week and I’ll have reached my 5% goal.

My goals for the coming week are to keep at it with the running, Wii Fit when I am too tired and continue to walk rather than drive whenever possible.

Run Forrest Run.
