April writing challenge written mostly in May : p

I said I’d do this to write more often for the April writing challenge but only did a couple so here’s them all, written on one day in May!

1) Five ways to win my heart?! Well if you won my heart I would be dead. What sort of a competition is it??

2) I feel strongly about…having a heart that cannot be won in some sort of sick competition.

3) A book I love… Time Traveller’s Wife

4 ) Bullet my whole day…

Sunday (so far)

  • Woke up man with a cup of tea
  • Spoke to my cousin on the phone
  • Popped to Tesco with man
  • Ate pancakes made by man
  • Made bread
  • Spoke to my Mom on the phone
  • Watched man cutting wood and banging making our new wardrobes
  • Ate aforementioned bread with naughty cheese
  • Sat in bed revamping blog whilst watching man work hard as above
  • Wrote this post

5) Things I want to say to an ex... I quite like you because you score me 8 but Zs and Qs are better.

6) My views on mainstream music. I wrote this a few weeks ago but it’s still in my drafts. If I have published it it will be here. If not I haven’t yet.

7) Five pet peeves… Dogs that poo, dog owners that let their dogs poo, dogs that jump up on me, dogs that bark too loudly, dogs that slobber. I don’t mind other pets ; )

8) What I ate today… See here, I actually did that one.

9) How important is education?  Srsly lyk sooooo important. Lol. Lmfao.

10) Put your music player on shuffle and write the first songs that play I did this too! Look here.

11) My family… consist of people who are related to one another and they are all ACE.

12) Five guys I find attractive Guys? What a funny word G U Y S. You know when you look at a word and it looks weird? Guys. Anyway. I don’t know many Guys. Guy Pearce used to be Mike in Neighbours although I preferred Brad.

13) My opinion on my body and how comfortable I am with it … My body is a temple. I am very comfortable with it as I am in bed and bed is comfortable.

14) What I wore today… Jeans, Stone Sour hoodie, knickers, socks. No bra because it is against my religion to wear one on a Sunday.

15) My zodiac/horoscope and whether it fits my personality… I am Leo. Apparently this means I am a lion. I have hair like a lion. So it must be true.

16) Something that I always think ‘what if’ about …What if i win the lottery?! I could go on this Mayhem festival cruise, that’s what! It WILL happen.

17) Something that I am proud of … I stopped being a lazy bum, did Couch to 5K and ran my first 5K Park Run yesterday.

18) A problem I have had… Once I couldn’t decide whether to have a Mint Aero or a Crunchie. Tough times.

19) Five items that I lust after… Design your own Converse, RIP tickets to Download festival, tickets to Mayhem festival cruise, a new projector, a new laptop.

20) My fears…The usual, anyone I love going to heaven.

21) How I hope my future will be… happy and healthy.

22) My academics… How boring. I did GCSEs and A Levels. I didn’t go to Uni because I liked home and I worked hard in my chosen field instead of writing essays about it.

23) Something that I miss…School

24) Five words/phrases that make me laugh…Pamplemousse, Blants, Floccinaucinihilipilification, I’ll have the cream of sum yung gai. I’m a poet and I don’t knorange.

28) Somewhere I’d like to visit… Hampton Court Palace

29) Five weird things that I like… Scabs, peely sunburn, smooth surfaces, pygmy goats, the DALEK man on last night’s Britain’s Got Talent.

That was a big ‘un!

Thanks for reading.

An Audience with Corey Taylor – The Man, The Legend!

It’s been a while but  I felt the need to post about An Audience With Corey Taylor at HMV Institute, Birmingham last night.

For those of you that may not know, Corey Taylor is the lead singer of one of my favourite bands Slipknot and also Stone Sour.

Now non Slipknot and metal lovers will probably think of the cliche  that metal vocals are just a screaming noise into a microphone but Corey Taylor is an amazing and diverse vocalist. This event was a bit different to usual gigs as it was to promote his new book Seven Deadly Sins.

In the first half he read excerpts from his book and really connected with the audience answering their questions with banter and  honesty. Inevitably he spoke about the death of Paul Gray, the Slipknot bassist who passed away last year.

In the second half it was just Corey and his guitar performing an acoustic set which really showed his vocal talents off.

Highlights for me included this cover of Pearl Jam’s Black…

…and an unforgettably funny rendition of the well known Slipknot song SPIT….. IT….OUT!!! This is the real version which I go loopy at when I see them live.

and this is the version Corey sang….

Brilliant. All in all well worth the ticket price and reaffirmed my adoration of the man, the legend Corey Taylor!

We are not worthy!

30 Day Song Challenge – Day Seventeen

Day 17 – a song that you hear often on the radio

Well I must confess that I am a bit of a flicker of radio channels in my old age. Kerrang would be my default in the car but it doesn’t play much heavy stuff in the daytime.

They do play Stone Sour and not so much recently but this one is daytime friendly enough for them to play and a great song too.

Stone Sour – Through Glass

Gigs of 2010

I Hate You More (various Brum venues)

I’ve seen I Hate You More a few times now in various Birmingham venues and I love them. Just exactly what I need from a band. No messing about metal. It’s  great to find a band that are so good you appreciate the fact you can still see them at the smaller venues. Their album is available on ITunes and you should get it  right now or I’ll hate you more.

Machine head – Birmingham 02 Academy

One of my favourite bands. This was probably about the 10th time I’ve seen them and they never disappoint. There’s nothing quite as exciting as hearing the intro of Davidian. We had to wait until the encore for it though.

Merciless Terror – Scruffy Murphy’s, Birmingham

A find and a half. They played on the bill of a Terrorizer Grindhouse night which I went to because I Hate You more were playing. Proper headbanging quality.

Whiplash Potential 10/10

Korn – Wolverhampton Civic Hall

Another band I have seen many times mostly great, sometimes not so great. This time was a sigh of relief as they really are back on form. I’m usually a bit old school when it comes to bands like Korn but even tracks they played off their new album were well received. Jonathan Davis seems to have sorted himself out and his voice can’t really be rivalled for its uniqueness.

Stone Sour & Avenged Sevenfold, Birmingham NIA

I’ll start with A7X. It was less than a year since The Rev’s death so parts of this set were emotional. The first time I saw Avenged Sevenfold was at Birmingham Academy a few years ago when City of Evil came out. They’ve never been a band I’ve listened to much but live, and this is a biggie, they are f*ckin’ amazing. Seriously. I tend to listen to heavier stuff day to day but M Shadows’ vocals are spot on, he can hit such a range of notes and can do the transition from melodic and emotive to heavy and growly. Yeaahhhh. As well as SOAD if I miss them at Download this year I will have to cut my own ears off.

Stone Sour

My future husband Corey Tayor. Now some of the new Stone Sour stuff is not quite heavy enough for me and I hope they don’t go too far down the radio friendly road. However, I don’t think (I suppose like a lot of bands) that album versions do the power of the songs justice. Digital sounded great live but when I hear it on the radio it’s just a bit meh. Older tracks were  great sing alongs and I could watch Corey all day long and will do when he finally makes me an honest woman : )

Hatebreed – HMV Insitute Birmingham

Being a little ‘lady’ as I am, much as I’d love to get in the pit with the big boys I usually stand just on the edges of it and mosh like a crazy person. The pit at Hatebreed was very messy. I wasn’t the happiest that both my brother and my boyfriend decided to buy pints of Guinness two minutes before the band came on and then bless them, got excited to get straight in there leaving me with two pints to hold in a rapidly pumped up crowd. They lasted about  a minute before they were on the floor!  All that aside Hatebreed are hardcore brilliance. I just wish I was 6 foot and 16 stone to fully get in there. My only criticsm would be this. I like my metal loud and fast and dirty but I like a bit of a journey to get there. Hatebreed take me there too quickly and then there’s sort of nowhere else to go with it. Am I making sense? Doubtful.  Ace all the same. : )

Done.
